6 children removed from York County home with no water

ROCK HILL, S.C. — ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — York County deputies said that six children have been removed from a home near Rock Hill that was filthy, had no running water and little food.

The children, ages 8 months to 8 years, were taken into protective custody on Sunday, Channel 9's partner The Herald reported.

Deputies went to the Porter Road home after receiving an anonymous tip to check on the children.

A sheriff's report said the children had head lice and the home smelled of garbage, urine and feces, according to a sheriff's report. It also said the children who were old enough to go to school had not been enrolled.

A  S.C. Department of Social Services official ruled that the children could not live in the conditions, according to the report. Social Services tried to contact relatives, but when none were available they took the children into protective custody.

The report said the mother of the children was placed in the York County Prison Camp. No charges have been filed.
