COLUMBIA, S.C. — According to South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles records, the driver of the bus carrying a football team from Rock Hill involved in a fatal crash had three moving violations and an accident in recent years.
The bus driver, 43-year-old Brian Andre Kirkpatrick, was killed in the Sept. 17 crash along with three others: two Clinton College students and the 8-year-old son of a coach.
According to DMV records, Kirkpatrick had convictions for speeding in June and November 2011. He also had a conviction for driving conditions in June 2012, and a reportable accident in June 2012.
A dozen survivors of the crash filed a lawsuit against Sandy River Baptist Church and its parent church organization, claiming faulty maintenance of the bus and tire that troopers say blew out.
