Murder charge dropped in shooting over rape accusation in Chester County

CHESTER, S.C. — A murder charge has been dropped against a Chester County man who authorities initially said killed a man who was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.

Online court records show prosecutors dropped the charge against Antwan White in April, nearly five years after he was initially charged.

Prosecutor Candice Lively told The Herald she reviewed the case and determined there wasn't enough evidence to take White to trial. She says prosecutors can restore the charge if more evidence is found.

Authorities at the time said White shot 39-year-old Michael Terry in July 2012 after the girl told her family that Terry raped her in Chester County.

Investigators say Terry was found dead near the home by officers responding to a 911 call about the rape.
