WESTMINSTER, S.C. — Sheriff's deputies in South Carolina have found a woman's body in a shed and a man is in custody.
The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said a body was found Wednesday afternoon that is thought to be that of 33-year-old Rebecca Murray Cawthon of Westminster. She was reported missing April 18 by family members who were unable to contact her.
Deputies said the missing woman's husband came to the office Wednesday and is being held. Her body was found near the couple's home after the man talked with deputies. Charges were expected Thursday.
An autopsy was planned Friday to determine how the woman died.
Capt. Greg Reed said the woman appeared to have been shot and had been dead for several weeks.
