CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A member of the committee choosing the cities toured Charlotte on Tuesday.
John Kristick with the U.S. bid committee said he was impressed with Bank of America stadium and potential training sites around the city. City leaders said soccer’s popularity has grown over the past five years.
"From the Mayor on down to the 10-year-old today who tells me it's in his heart and the game is here and part of Charlotte, that's great," Kristick said.
City councilman Andy Dulin said the tournament could bring 2,000 visitors to Charlotte which would pump millions of dollars into the local economy.
The list will be cut from 27 possible host cities to 18 in December. The United States won’t know if it’s won the World Cup until December 2010.
