CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokeswoman said a school resource officer was tipped off that a freshman had brought marijuana to school early Tuesday. She said when the officer quested the 15-year-old in his office, he noticed a loaded .25-caliber gun under the teen’s chair.
The teen was immediately taken into police custody.
Principal Mark Bosco alerted parents by sending a Connect-ED e-mail about the incident and telling them that no one was threatened or harmed in any way.
This is the second time a gun has been found on CMS grounds this year. The first was at Coulwood Middle School.
Last year, four guns were found and two of them were at Independence High School.
So far, security measures at the school have not been changed.
All students found with guns are expelled according to the CMS Student Code of Conduct.
The teen is charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a handgun.
