Stay cool: Thursday expected to be hottest day of the year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thursday morning has already started on the warm side, with temps in the upper 60s to low 70s.

The region will warm even more, as temperatures will climb near 90 degrees in Charlotte -- which would make today the warmest day so far this year.

A cold front is approaching from the northwest and this will kick off some showers and storms Thursday afternoon. The best chance for rain will be in the mountains, as most will stay dry in the Charlotte area.

That front will stall to the south of Charlotte on Friday and that will bring a better chance for showers and storms -- it won't be a washout though.

Temperatures on Friday will be in the mid-80s.

Gorgeous weather will move in for the Memorial Day weekend, with highs in the mid-to-low 80s with sunny skies.
