Steamy conditions could spark afternoon downpours, wind, hail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After a beautiful Memorial Day weekend, the Charlotte area will start the work week off with continued hot and muggy conditions, with temperatures in the high 80s and 90s.

Tuesday the mercury will rise into the high 80s by the afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to flare up in the mountains around noon and move toward the Queen City by late afternoon.

Strong winds, heavy downpours, lightning and hail can be expected with these storms.

Wednesday, expect the temps to continue to rise. The highs will be in the 90s, but as the week continues expect to see the temperature drop back down to the mid-80s around Charlotte.

Cooler temperatures are forecast for later in the week. The metro region can expect even more scattered thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday before dry conditions return for the weekend.
