A storm system will cross into the mountains Sunday night. It will bring rain for the mountains, and will reach the Charlotte area between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday. Temperatures will be warmer for the first part of the day. The high temperature for Monday will come in the morning instead of the afternoon.
Cold air will settle later in the day; the timing of the cold air is key. If there is still moisture in the area, rain will switch over to snow in the mountains and potentially sleet along the I-40 corridor. There could possibly be a little bit of sleet in the Charlotte area. This will not add up to much since temperatures are warm today ice will not accumulate on the ground.
Temperatures drop overnight Monday, with morning lows Tuesday in the 20s.
Another storm system will develop later this week, bringing additional moisture from the Gulf. It’s too early to tell what this storm will bring.
