Severe thunderstorm warning for Mecklenburg Co. expires

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Rowan counties expired at 5:30 p.m.

There is some relief in sight from the heat though, as Monday is likely the only day this week that will have the mercury climbing into the 90s.

A strong cold front will arrive Tuesday which will cool conditions down nicely by midweek.

Storm chances are low Monday but a few showers could bubble up with the heat of the afternoon. The threat for strong-to-severe storms grows Tuesday with the cold front arriving. Strong winds and hail will accompany the heavy rain threat.

Once the front passes by Wednesday, temps will cool down and conditions will dry out. Highs will fall back into the mid-80s for at least a few days.
