2 men accused of intimidating police in Massachusetts

SALEM, Mass. — Two men were arrested after allegedly acting in a threatening manner towards police officers in Massachusetts, according to the Essex County District Attorney.

Kelvin Mendoza and Emmanuel Rodriguez Shonyo were arrested with large capacity guns and a police scanner after driving the wrong way down a one-way street, police say.

According to the district attorney's office, the pair were talking about recent police killings and acting in a threatening, suspicious manner when police were speaking with them.

The district attorney's office says there was no specific plot or threat to kill police officers, but police said the pair seemed to be reaching back into the car and hiding their hands.

Mendoza allegedly made references to being discharged from the military and being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Based on comments made about police being "shot all over the country" and a refusal to obey commands, police said they believed he was trying to intimidate the on-scene officers.

Police said the pair were suspected of drug activity and a search of the car turned up the rifle with a magazine in it and no trigger lock.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office initially said the men were accused of threatening to kill police and possibly plotting to kill police. However, they later corrected that to say they were acting suspicious.
