EAST ORANGE, N.J. — A 6-year-old New Jersey boy accidentally shot and killed his 4-year-old brother while playing with a gun, police said Saturday.
According to WPIX, the shooting took place Saturday morning at an East Orange halfway house. The 4-year-old was taken to Newark's University Hospital, where he died that afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Authorities said the gun belonged to the boys' mother, 22-year-old Itiyanah Spruill, but investigators did not know how the 6-year-old obtained the weapon.
Spruill, who was charged with endangering a child's welfare and a weapons violation, is being held at the Essex County Jail on $130,000 bail, WPIX reported.
