Boy, 10, becomes ‘Chief for a Day' after calling 911 to save neighbor's life

Phoenix Bomar, 10, became "Chief for a Day" after calling 911 and saving his neighbor's life.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Pheonix Bomar was walking home from school when he put his mother’s advice into action.

A neighbor was injured falling and started yelling for help.

Bomar, 10, ran to check on the man, and then called 911 and signaled for emergency responders when their sirens blared down the street.

"If I didn't hear him, he may have slid down the hill, maybe into the street," Bomar told KFSM. "Some people dial 911 and they feel like they save someone's life. That's how I feel."

His mother is proud.

"You tell them over and over things, and you never know if they really listen," Havilah Bomar told KFSM. "I've always said if you need help, you go around and see if there's anyone close by and if there's not, you call 911."
