Children of couple found dead in home arrested

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The sons of a couple found dead in their San Jose, California, home have been arrested by police.

San Jose police said the couple was found shot to death on the hardwood floor of their home.

Friends made the discovery when they went to Golam and Shamima Rabbi's home and entered through an unlocked glass door when they did not hear from the couple for days.

On the hardwood floor, written in ink, was a note that said, "Sorry, my first kill was clumsy."

BuzzFeed News reported that police believe those responsible for the murders were "familiar" to the couple.

Friends of the couple, who were members of the Evergreen Islamic Center, said they were "simple, gentle souls."

The Rabbis immigrated from Bangladesh decades ago. Golam Rabbi worked as an engineer and Shamima Rabbi worked as an accountant.

Police announced Thursday that the couple's sons, 22-year-old Hasib Bin Golamrabbi and his 17-year-old brother, whose name has not been released, were arrested on suspicion of murdering their parents.

"Based on the information we have at this time, we do not believe this incident is a hate crime or that the public is in any immediate danger as a result of the suspect's actions," police told Mercury News.

BuzzFeed News reported that, following the killings, Golamrabbi was not accounted for, but was arrested in Tracy, California, Wednesday and booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

His brother was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall after his arrest in San Jose.

"The Evergreen community is mourning the loss of Golam and Shamima Rabbi," Evergreen Valley High School, attended by the 17-year-old boy, said a statement to KGO. "Like everyone else, we are in shock and disbelief regarding this tragic event. We have additional counselors and support staff avaiable to students at Evergreen Valley High School. We want to reassure parents that our school is and remains a safe place for our students and staff."

Police said it will be up to the district attorney's office to determine if the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult.
