Deadly argument between father and son started over beer, police say

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A man died in a shootout with police Saturday after he fatally shot his son following an argument with his wife over beer, police said.

Officers were called Saturday night to a home in Pinellas Park, Florida, after 58-year-old Irena Bogusiewicz and her husband, 59-year-old Waldemar Bogusiewicz, got into an argument at their home. Waldemar Bogusiewicz had been drinking and an argument over who would go to buy more beer got heated, according to police.

As tensions escalated, the couple's son, 25-year-old Adrian Bogusiewicz, went to see what was going on between his parents.

"The wife left the residence because of her husband's demeanor and then called the police, leaving the son and husband alone in the home," police said in a news release.

Officers met Irena Bogusiewicz down the street from the family's home. Shortly after she and the officers arrived back at the house, police spotted Adrian Bogusiewicz dead of multiple gunshot wounds in his bedroom.

"At this time the husband was observed in the home with a gun in his hand and began yelling for the officers to leave, at which time he began shooting at the officers," according to Pinellas Park police.

Irena Bogusiewicz fled from the home, yelling that her husband had a gun. Two officers returned fire, fatally wounding Waldemar Bogusiewicz. The officers were not injured.

Waldemar Bogusiewicz was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg.

A search of the house turned up multiple firearms in the son's and the master bedroom, according to authorities.

Police identified the officers who shot at Waldemar Bogusiewicz as M. Jasiukiewicz and J. Copeland. Jasiukiewicz joined the police department in September 2012. Copeland joined in April 2015. Per department policy, both officers were placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation into the shooting continues.

The Pinellas Park Police Department and the Pinellas County State Attorney's Office are investigating the confrontation.
