Deaf man dies after Florida road rage incident

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 37-year-old deaf man in Coral Springs died of serious injuries after being involved in a road rage incident Thursday morning.

Officals said the man, identified as Paul Peterman, might have gotten himself in the situation by accident "due to his hearing impairment," WSVN reports.

“He loved everybody. He was deaf, and he made a name for himself in the world," his mother, Bernadette Peterman, told WSVN.

Police said Peterman and a male driver got into a dispute in Margate that eventually ended in the intersection at West Atlantic Boulevard and Riverside Drive. The driver then fled the scene.

Coral Springs police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek told WSVN that officials found Peterman lying down unresponsive on the roadway. He was airlifted to  a hospital but was pronounced dead when he got there, according to WSVN.

Officials said Peterman did not have any gunshot or stab wounds, and his cause of death is under investigation, WSVN reports.

"There was nobody with him. It was just him. None of us knew what had happened,” said Dawn Zamora, Peterman's sister, to WSVN.

Police said the other driver has been identified as Joshua Tullis, 37, who was driving a dark-colored pickup truck.

Officials are still investigating the incident.
