Dog dies after being beaten by contractor in shocking viral video

KINGWOOD, Texas — One of the dogs attacked by a contractor in a disturbing viral video has died, KTRK reports.

According to WKMG, Texas homeowner Mike Wilcox said a contract employee for CenterPoint Energy entered his backyard to read the house's meter March 23 and was approached by his two Weimaraners, Flash and Shutter. Video of the backyard shows the worker swinging a pipe wrench at the dogs.

Wilcox said his family, including his 4-year-old son, watched the attack from a window five feet away.

Wilcox said Shutter died from his injuries Thursday, KTRK reports. Flash, who had jaw surgery last month, sustained a concussion, a cut above the eye, and a lost tooth in the attack, Wilcox said.

The family filed a complaint with CenterPoint, which released a statement saying it did not condone the actions and that it had contacted the company that employs the worker.

The contract company said it will conduct an investigation.
