Twitter employee shut down Donald Trump's Twitter account, company says

Twitter said it has "implemented safeguards" to prevent any further account deactivation like the one that led President Donald Trump's account to disappear for 11 minutes.

Donald Trump directly addressed the deactivation of his account about 12 hours after it happened. "My Twitter account was taken down for 11 minutes by a rogue employee. I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact," he tweeted.

Original story Nov. 2:

President Donald Trump's @realDonaldTrump account disappeared for 11 minutes Thursday, causing concern among some and celebration among others.

Not long after the incident, Twitter announced that the outage was  done intentionally by an employee on their last day of work:

Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee's last day. We are conducting a full internal review.

Time reported that the page appeared to disappear for several minutes Thursday night before reappearing.

Twitter's government and elections team initially issued a statement on the incident Thursday night. According to the group, it was "deactivated due to human error."

"Earlier today @realdonaldtrump's account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again."

Trump has an official Twitter account as president -- @POTUS -- that he rarely uses. The page mostly contains retweets of Trump's posts from @realDonaldTrump.

Trump has not commented on the 11 minutes his account was gone, instead weighing in on former interim Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile's claim that Hillary Clinton rigged the Democratic presidential primary race against Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

"Donna Brazile just stated the DNC RIGGED the system to illegally steal the Primary from Bernie Sanders. Bought and paid for by Crooked H....," Trump's tweet read.

“This is real collusion and dishonesty,” he said in a second tweet. “Major violation of Campaign Finance Laws and Money Laundering - where is our Justice Department?”
