Florida raccoon trashes car, gives birth in the back seat

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — An uninvited guest gave birth in the backseat of a car in Florida on Wednesday.

No, it wasn't a human, it was a pregnant raccoon who curled up in the backseat of a convertible at an auto shop in Manatee County, according to the Herald-Tribune. It likely entered where plastic was covering a damaged window.

While in the backseat, the raccoon gave birth to two cubs, causing quite the mess in the process.

“I felt pretty bad for the owner of the car,” Devon Straight, a worker at Wildlife Inc., told the Herald-Tribune. “(The animals) tore up the sun shades, chewed some shoes and peed all over the place.”

Straight was called to the scene to rescue the mother and her newborns. The three raccoons were taken to a nearby wooded area and released into the wild.
