Former TV judge Joe Brown barred from practicing law in Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Former TV judge Joe Brown has been temporarily banned from practicing law in Tennessee due to medical reasons.

According to The Associated Press, the state Supreme Court placed Brown on disability inactive status.

Production company Celebritunity told The AP that Brown has type II diabetes and is taking medication to treat complications of the disease.  The medication is causing side effects, which is exacerbated by Brown's hypertension and stress.

Once lawyers are placed on disability inactive status, they cannot practice law in the state until they prove to the court that they are fit to practice.

Brown was held in contempt of court in September for a courtroom outburst that took place in 2014. He served a five-day jail sentence.
