SAN DIEGO — A young sea lion got separated from its mother and made itself comfortable on the warm lights illuminating a hotel sign in San Diego, according to one local news report.

KGTV reported that officers with the San Diego Harbor Police Department got a call about a sea lion in front of the Bay Club Hotel & Marina sign Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the police department told KGTV the pup crossed the street alone and settled into the flowers in front of the hotel sign.

The sea lion was crossing the street without its mother. Officers tried to get the pup into their patrol vehicle, but he became aggressive. The pup allowed officers to put a leash on him, but wouldn’t move.

An hour later, San Diego Humane Society crews came to retrieve the pup and he was taken to SeaWorld, where officials told KGTV he was about a year old and malnourished and dehydrated. According to officials, the pup should be between 55 and 65 pounds.

SeaWorld officials said the sea lion was given fluids and rest at the theme park’s Animal Health and Rescue Center.
