"Fast & Furious 6" director Justin Lin is co-writing the script for "Space Jam 2" with Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lin, who directed the last four films in the "Fast & Furious" franchise, is looking to direct the film and produce it as well.

The original 1996 movie starred Michael Jordan and featured Looney Tunes cartoon characters playing basketball against aliens who stole the basketball talents of notable stars of the era: Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley.

LeBron James, who has been compared to Jordan for most of his career, is expected to star in the sequel.

Sports Illustrated reported that James' company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. in July, fueling speculation that the movie was movie forward.

No release date has been set.
