Video shows angry chauffeur allegedly attacking motorist

LOS ANGELES — A chauffeur for a private limo service in Los Angeles, California, had a case of road rage that was caught on video Tuesday.

Shahnam Asbaghi told KTLA that he was driving on the highway and was rear-ended by the driver.

"This limousine Yukon driver was just tailgating me the whole time since when I got onto the (highway). It was so bad," Asbaghi said. "I actually got scared and nervous so I exited early. When I exited, he just rammed me with his car at probably 25, 30 mph."

Asbaghi said the chauffeur got out his vehicle and punched his window multiple times. He then got back in his car and drove away.

Asbaghi followed the car to get the license plate number.

That's when he said the driver stopped again and, in a video recorded by Asbaghi, appears to take a tire iron or another metal object of some sort and swing it at the driver's side window, hitting the car.

"I was in shock. So that's when I called 911," he said. "Because my head wasn't smashed, because the window wasn't smashed, no harm, no foul is what they told me."

The Los Angeles Police Department had the men exchange information.

Police said the driver initially told them Asbaghi drove in front of him and slammed the brakes, causing a minor accident.

"There is no situation where this would be legal," LAPD Lt. Jim Gavin told KNBC. "But we aren't charging anyone until we find out what led up to the incident. Right now, statements from both parties aren't adding up."

L.A. Private Car Service, which employed the driver, released a statement:

"We are aware of the situation and are investigating all facts. This is still very new and fluid, and we want to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted. We will take appropriate action once our investigation is completed."

According to a tweet from the company, the driver has been fired.

A motorist in Van Nuys captured a frightening road-rage incident on video Tuesday when a chauffeur allegedly came after him and struck his car's window.
“I was in shock. So that's when I called 911," said Shahnam Asbaghi following the incident. No arrests were made. "Because my head wasn't smashed, because the window wasn't smashed, no harm no foul is what they told me."
The LAPD said they were reviewing the incident Wednesday morning and would take the "appropriate action" if and when necessary. The car service said it had fired the driver.
