Trooper: Alcohol, drugs a factor in 3-vehicle crash

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. - According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a woman is dead after a three-vehicle wreck happened Friday night west of Dallas, on Dallas Cherryville Highway near Applewood Road.  The accident injured four others.

Our news partner, The Gaston Gazette, spoke to Trooper M.A. Fleming who said a 2003 Kia driven by Kevin Kidd, was headed toward Cherryville when it crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck, driven by Melissa Childers, head-on.  Joseph Albright was a passenger in the truck.  They both suffered serious injuries.

The passenger in the Kia, Lora White died.

A Jeep Cherokee driven by Teresa Stevenson was traveling behind the truck which also struck the Kia.

Stevenson suffered injuries but it is not known how severe.  The Kia remained in the center of the road after being hit.

Kid was charged with driving while impaired.  He received serious injuries and is currently in the hospital.  The passenger in the Kia, Lora White, was killed.

"We believe that alcohol and possibly drugs were involved in this wreck. Our investigation is ongoing," Fleming said.
