Heavy rain, lightning hit overnight; More storms expected

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Tuesday's risk for severe weather is looking a bit higher than the last few days.

As we heat back up to the mid-90s, strong storms are likely to develop.

More widespread storms are likely, with damaging winds the primary threat.

Large hail and frequent lightning are also likely.

Keep your guard up through the afternoon and early evening.  The area could see another round of storms late Tuesday moving in from the north.

Channel 9 cameras caught intense lightning in south Charlotte Monday night. The isolated storm knocked down a large tree in Waxhaw that narrowly missed a house.

Later this week, more heat will hit the area and this will reduce the chance for stronger storms.
