We just received the weekly drought conditions update from the U.S. Drought Monitor, and there has been no major change in conditions throughout the region. This is both positive and negative. On one hand, drought conditions did not worsen. Only portions of Chesterfield county in South Carolina remain in "severe" drought. However, the drought did not improve despite over a half inch of rain this past week. The latest streamflow data shows that water levels flowing through numerous streams and rivers in the area remain lower than normal. It will likely take a more significant rainfall to increase the streamflow and help improve the drought. We'll be watching areas east and southeast of Charlotte closely over the next week.
