CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The downpours that hit the area Monday caused flooding problems for some people in Claremont.
A Claremont creek that’s usually just a couple of inches deep rose dramatically during the heavy rain, covering people’s back yards. To submit your weather photos, click here.
“From five minutes time it comes across that creek and it's got your whole yard, buildings and everything, under water,” said area resident Michael Huffman.
The water also rose along Bryon Scott's garage.
“(It was) just like a river on the back yard. (There was) trash and limbs,” he said.
Neighbors said the creek is usually only about a foot deep.
The rain also caused several accidents in Catawba County Monday morning.
Channel 9’s Storm Cam was rolling as one car wrecked into a guardrail. Another accident happened on Interstate 40, where a car overturned between Fairgrove Church and McDonald Parkway.
Rain chances will remain high through Tuesday before tapering off by midweek.
