CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The fun, campy Bojangles Chicken commercials featuring Panthers’ stars Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith are back.Monday, Smith was filming one of the spots inside Bank of America Stadium in Uptown Charlotte. In it, he catches a touchdown pass, jumps into the stands to celebrate with the fans, and then proceeds to take a fan’s chicken and eat it while dangling off of the end zone wall.“I think I ate 10 or 12 pieces of chicken,” said Smith. It won’t look like that in the commercial, but he has to actually eat a new piece for each of the several takes during shooting.“I had a good time doing it, each phase was really interesting,” said Smith. This is his third commercial in the Bojangles series, each more elaborate than the previous.Teammates still give Smith a hard time about the first one where Delhomme’s line is, "Show me the chicken!” and Smith’s line is, “You complete me,” a reference to the movie "Jerry Maguire."In the second, Delhomme and Smith drive around and jump a huge dirt pile in a car made up to look like the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard. This time around, the stars are in their own spots, not together.Randy Poindexter, from Bojangles, told WSOCTV.com the two commercials they are doing with Smith and Delhomme will be their biggest productions this year.“Jake and Steve both have done such a great job over the years. I think people really connect with them because they are so much fun, and fans can tell they are having fun doing the commercials,” said Poindexter. To watch an extended interview with Smith and to see a slideshow of this and past shoots, look in the sidebar of this article.
