SPONSORED: Set up a car maintenance budget with these tips

Toyota tips

Are you a “be prepared” type of person? When it comes to owning a car, having this type of attitude can really do you a favor. Not only will it help you stay organized when it comes to car care, it’ll also help you prepare for unforeseen situations like your car breaking down or major auto repairs. Toyota of N Charlotte is here to help you GET this kind of attitude if you don’t already have it… learn how to budget for car maintenance with these tips!

What should you be budgeting for when it comes to car maintenance?

Routine car maintenance is such an important part of car ownership. Without routine auto service, you drop your car’s resale value and also negatively impact its performance. Staying on top of it takes a little bit of work (although our Charlotte Toyota service techs can get you on a schedule) and a big of budgeting as well.
Here are the main car maintenance appointments you should budget for when you become a car owner:

1) Oil change

Without routine oil changes, your engine will suffer and ultimately, so will your car’s performance (to the point of your engine overheating, melding together, and breaking down). You should schedule Charlotte oil changes as needed; it depends on which type of oil you use, but you’ll need them anywhere between every 3,000 to 10,000 miles, and they cost anywhere from $25 to $70. And remember, synthetic oil changes may cost a bit more upfront but they last a lot longer than conventional oil changes.

2) Tire rotations

Budgeting for this car maintenance will save you a lot of money in the long run. Tire rotations extend the life of your tires, which means you won’t have to replace them as frequently. Our techs will move your front tires to the back and left to right to ensure all four of them wear evenly and give you the performance you need. You’ll need a tire rotation every 6,000 to 8,000 miles and it’ll run you between $25-$50.

3) Brake service

Brake service is imperative to your safety and the safety of the drivers around you. Luckily, it’s not a service you’ll need TOO often – typically you only need to schedule it every 25,000 miles or so to have your brake pads replaced. This will run you between $100-$300 an axle, so be sure to check your brake pads before you decide to replace them and make sure you’re at that point in their life cycle.

4) Air filter change

Air filter changes are important for performance – your car needs to be able to pull in enough clean air to keep things chugging along under the hood. Replace this part every 15,000 – 30,000 miles and expect to spend between $25-$50 each time.
