The Mint Museum of Art

The Mint Museum of Craft and Design  
The Mint Museum of Craft + Design features a permanent collection that documents contemporary studio craft, tracing the movement's historical roots in the 19th century and its relationship to traditional decorative arts and industrial design. The techniques and inspiration of artists throughout the world are showcased in collections of ceramics, fiber, glass, metal and wood.

North Carolina Zoo  
The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro exhibits more than 1,100 animals from 250 species. These native African and North American species live in natural habitats scattered through 500 acres of Piedmont woodlands. Explore the natural habitat of polar bears, gorillas, giraffes and zebras. Roam the Prairie with bison and elk. Walk on over five miles of trails to experience our natural world and connect your life to the world's wildlife.

North Carolina Transportation Museum  
The North Carolina Transportation Museum is located in Spencer on the site of what was once Southern Railway Company's largest steam locomotive repair facility. The museum features an authentic train depot, antique automobiles, and a 37-bay Roundhouse that includes 25 locomotives, dozens of rail cars and other exhibit areas. The museum offers seasonal train rides, guided tours for scheduled groups, and special events scheduled throughout the year.

Take a tour of the site on the 25-minute train ride pulled by an antique diesel engine. The train generally runs daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and on weekends or for scheduled groups the rest of the year. A deaf, grumpy, and disheveled old man has moved in above young Christoph's apartment. He stomps around the floor and bangs on the piano, much to Christoph's dismay. But that ornery old noise-maker turns out to be Ludwig van Beethoven. As Christoph describes Beethoven's antics in letters to his uncle, he slowly comes to understand the genius of the composer and the beauty of his music.

Historic Latta Plantation is a circa 1800 cotton plantation and living history farm located within Latta Plantation Nature Preserve.
