CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- All of West Charlotte High School wants its shot at the state champions, the Independence High School football team. For now the school system says the game is still on, but just who will be on the field is still up in the air.Eyewitness News has learned that school investigators spent much of their Thursday at West Charlotte and at Independence going over the records of players on both teams to determine if they're actually living in each school's attendance zone.Stacy Pierce, whose son is a defensive end at Independence, said the coach was contacting all of the players' parents asking them to bring in proof of residency.“He called me a couple of days ago and I brought it in yesterday,” she said.“Are most parents doing that?” reporter Mark Becker asked.“Absolutely,” she said. The school system released a statement Thursday afternoon confirming they're conducting an investigation, but said it's premature to comment until it's finished. However, the investigation was certainly the talk of both schools. At West Charlotte students said they have no problem with it.“Because we don't want nobody on the team from another district,” said student Kadeem Ferguson. One player for Independence was ruled ineligible before an earlier playoff game.South Mecklenburg High School had to forfeit all of their games after the school system learned that one of their players was ineligible and the school knew about it, yet allowed him to play. The state semi-final championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium.HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Get Revved Up For The Game By Taking A Look Back At The Season
