No. 2 Tennessee, No. 1 Memphis Survive

East


Second-round action continued in the East Region on Sunday with three games.

First up, No. 7 Butler faced No. 2 Tennessee. After the Vols led at the half, the Bulldogs fought back to even the game at the end of regulation and send the contest to overtime. Tennessee was able to pull away in the extra session to post the 76-71 victory and advance to the Sweet 16.

The region's second game pit No. 6 Oklahoma against No. 3 Louisville. The Cardinals jumped out to a sizable lead in the first half, scoring 44 points on the Sooners at the intermission. Louisville didn't slow down in the second period and recorded an easy 78-48 victory.

The East's final second-round game featured No. 9 Arkansas against No. 1 North Carolina. The Tar Heels -- the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament -- didn't give the Razorbacks a chance in the second-round meeting, posting a 108-77 victory.

Saturday's Games
The lone second-round game in the East Region on Saturday featured No. 4 Washington State against No. 5 Notre Dame.

The Cougars routed the Irish 61-41. Washington State was led by Derrick Low's 18 points, while Luke Harangody recorded 10 points and 22 rebounds for the Irish.

Midwest


Second-round action in the Midwest Region opened with two underdogs battling for a berth in the Sweet 16.

Sunday's first game featured No. 13 Siena against No. 12 Villanova. The Wildcats, who knocked off Clemson in the first round, came out strong against the Saints, winners over No. 4 Vanderbilt on Friday. Villanova led by 10 at the half and held their advantage throughout the second period en route to posting an 84-72 victory. The Wildcats' Scottie Reynolds scored a game-high 25 points.

In the region's second game, No. 10 Davidson pulled an upset over No. 2 Georgetown. After the Hoyas led by 11 at the half, the Wildcats clawed back into the game in the second period to post a 74-70 victory over last year's Final Four team. Stephen Curry led Davidson with 30 points.

Saturday's Games
No. 3 Wisconsin took care of business Saturday, downing No. 11 Kansas State 72-55 in second-round action. The Badgers' Trevon Hughes scored a game-high 25 points while Kansas State freshman Michael Beasley recorded 23 points and 13 rebounds in the outing.

The Midwest Region's top seed was also in action Saturday. No. 1 Kansas handled No. 8 UNLV 75-56. For the Rebels, Wink Adams scored a game-high 25 points, and Mario Chalmers led the Jayhawks with 17 points.

South


The South's top two seeds are in action Sunday.

In the region's first game, No. 2 Texas faced No. 7 Miami. The Longhorns eased past the Hurricanes in the first half, leading by 11 at the intermission. But the Hurricanes came back in the second half and fought their way back into the game with a 22-8 scoring run late in the game. But Miami's charge was too late and Texas was able to hang on for a 75-72 victory.

Sunday's second contest featured No. 1 Memphis against No. 8 Mississippi State. The Tigers led by nine at the half before the Bulldogs came back and out-scored Memphis in the second period to tighten the gag. The Tigers out-lasted Mississippi State's run to post a 77-74 victory.

Saturday's Games
Two second-round games were played in the South Region on Saturday.

No. 6 Marquette gave No. 3 Stanford all it could handle in the first game. Playing without head coach Trent Johnson, who was ejected in the first half after getting called for two technical fouls, assistant coach Doug Oliver and the Cardinal trailed the Golden Eagles by six at the half. But then Brook Lopez and the Stanford offense came alive in the second period, forcing the game to a tie at the end of regulation. Lopez hit the game-winner shot in overtime to give the Cardinal an 82-81 victory. Lopez and Marquette's Jerel McNeal each tallied 30 points in the contest.

The second contest featured No. 5 Michigan State against No. 4 Pittsburgh. The Spartans took a two-point lead into the half, and clung to the slight advantage throughout the second period en route to recording a 65-54 victory. Drew Neitzel led Michigan State in scoring with 21 points.

West


After a full slate of games Saturday, only one game was played Sunday in the West Region. In a game between two underdog, overtime winners, No. 12 Western Kentucky downed No. 13 San Diego 72-63. The Hilltoppers will next face UCLA in next week's Sweet 16.

Saturday's Games
Saturday's slate included three second-round games in the West Region.

After a close call against No. 15 Belmont in Thursday's opening round, No. 2 Duke faced No. 7 West Virginia. The Blue Devils got off to a quick start, leading by as much as 10 in the first half before the Mountaineers fought back. Down by five at the half, West Virginia went on an 18-6 run at the start of the second period to jump into the lead en route to posting a 73-67 victory. Joe Alexander led the Mountaineers with a game-high 22 points.

No. 3 Xavier took No. 6 Purdue in afternoon action. The Musketeers held a three-point advantage at the half, and clung to the slim lead throughout the second period to post an 85-78 victory.

Top-seeded UCLA faced No. 9 Texas A&M in Saturday's evening game. The Aggies shocked the Bruins and jumped out to a 29-26 lead at the half. Texas A&M built on their lead in the second half, leading by as many as 10, before UCLA fought back. Darren Collison scored with 10 seconds left to give the Bruins the advantage. UCLA then stopped the Aggies' last scoring attempt and turned it into two points of its own to clinch a 53-49 victory.
