Blue Jays Place P Richmond On DL

Posted: 10:01 pm EDT July 4, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays placed pitcher Scott Richmond on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, with a sore shoulder.

Richmond is 6-5 with a 3.69 earned-run average in 16 games, 13 starts, this season, his second in the majors.

Manager Cito Gaston said after Toronto lost 6-5 to the New York Yankees in 12 innings Saturday that Richmond has tendinitis.

Left-hander Brett Cecil moved up to take Richmond's spot in the rotation Sunday against New York, and Brad Mills will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Tuesday at Tampa Bay.
