Delhomme Gelding, "Woozy," Wins $150,000 Race

Sunday, July 2, 2006

Quarterback Jake Delhomme's 2-year-old gelding Woozy has earned back his $6,700 purchase price more than tenfold.

The horse, bought last October, won Saturday's $150,000 D.S. "Shine" Young Memorial Futurity.

Delhomme, of the NFL's Carolina Panthers, races under the stable name Set Hut LLC.

His father, Jerry Delhomme, trained the little gelding, which Willie Lozano Jr. rode over a 5-furlong track in 59 3/5, holding off late challenges by Princess Deelite and Margarita Man.

Woozy paid $16 for betters.

The Louisiana Legends Festival of Racing card included six races with purses of $75,000 and three worth $40,000 each, honoring individuals and families who have helped racing in Louisiana.
