Knights break single-season attendance record Saturday

Uptown Charlotte is ready for some baseball and the Charlotte Knights had a kickoff party Friday before first pitch at new ballpark.

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Knights broke their all-time attendance mark for a single season in just 45 games on Saturday night. The Knights rewarded one lucky fan with a special prize pack.

The gates opened at 6 p.m. The Knights shattered their all-time mark of 429,132 fans set back in 1993. When the 429,133rd fan walked through the gates Saturday night, the Knights celebrated by taking her down to the field to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Carolyn Kellogg was photographed with the Hickory Tavern KnightinGals and Homer the Dragon.

Kellogg was also showered with gifts, including a team signed baseball, Knights jersey, hat, and four tickets to the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

"As we continue to welcome our dedicated fans to BB&T Ballpark, we want to pause for a moment and celebrate a historic attendance mark for us," said Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. "We are very pleased with the support from our community."

BB&T Ballpark has achieved 21 sell-out crowds this season, averaging 9,596 fans through the gates, also the highest in minor league baseball.

The Knights welcomed four Olympic swimmers on Saturday for a meet and greet. Roy Burch, Micah Lawrence, Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace and Cammile Adams will be on hand to sign autographs for fans before the game.

 Saturday night's game will also feature a performance from the KnightinGals and ZOOperstars! Group, which is an act that showcases sports figures in animal form.

The first pitch of the Knights game against the Norfolk Tides was set for 7:05 p.m.
