Game of Week: Statesville at South Iredell

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — The voters have spoken, and with more than 3,000 votes, the Channel 9 Game of the Week for Week 2 is Statesville at South Iredell this Friday night.

Statesville will look to overcome last year's 34-17 loss to South Iredell.

Statesville (1-0) comes into the matchup with a shut out win over Hickory, 37-0.  South Iredell (1-0) comes in with a 1-point season-opening win over Lake Norman, 17-16.

This game features four of the WSOC-TV "Big 22" Players to watch in 2011.

For South Iredell, linebacker LaChaston Smith  was voted to the 2012 "Big 22" team.  Smith will miss at least the next four weeks with a broken leg.

For Statesville, quarterback Carlis Parker made the "Big 22" Players to Watch team.

The Vikings (S. Iredell) are looking to capitalize on last year's success.  The team lost in the sectional round of last year's 2AA playoffs to West Stokes, 28-14 after winning its first 13 games of the season.

The Greyhounds (Statesville) finished last season at 7-5-1 and lost in the district round of the 3A playoffs to West Rowan, 32-27.
