HSFE WEEK 1: South Pointe dominates Northwestern 49-14 in HSFE Game of Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Defending state champion South Pointe coasted to a 49-14 win over its Rock Hill rival Northwestern in the season-opener for both teams Friday night.

The game was the WSOC-TV High School Football Extra Game of the week.

South Pointe won its 28th consecutive game dating back to the 2016 season.

Northwestern, four years removed from a state championship, falls to 0-1 on the season.

South Pointe capped off a perfect 15-0 season in 2017 with a 38-14 victory over Hartsville in the title game. Northwestern posted a 7-5 record.

South Pointe has defeated Northwestern three years in a row.

The last Northwestern victory over South Pointe was a 35-34 win in overtime in 2015, which was South Pointe’s lone loss that season.

South Pointe lost former Big 22 Player to Watch winner Derion Kendrick, who is now playing at Clemson. Kendrick rushed for 1,194 yards, passed for 2,683 yards and accounted for 50 touchdowns for the Stallions last season.

Northwestern is led by Big 22 Player to Watch Jamario Holley. Holley caught for 1,178 yards with 18 touchdowns last season as a junior.
