Newton spotted helmetless on scooter in uptown traffic before MNF

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers fans know how important their league MVP quarterback is to the team, and will be anxiously awaiting Cam Newton's return to the field following yet another loss, this time falling to Tampa Bay 17-14 on Monday Night Football.

But something the franchise star did before the game on Monday has some questioning Newton's decision making.

Newton is in the league's concussion protocol following a hit last weekend against Atlanta, and missed the game against the Buccaneers while he recovers.

But Newton apparently was feeling well enough to be out among the masses in uptown Charlotte earlier in the day, as reported by ESPN NFL writer Adam Schefter on Twitter.

In the photo, Newton is seen riding what looks like a scooter-type vehicle in traffic without a helmet on.

Only five games into the season and the Carolina Panthers look nothing like the team that went 15-1 last year and lost in the Super Bowl.

The Panthers travel to New Orleans this weekend before getting a needed bye. They can only hope that gives them a chance to get healthy and regroup.
