Speedway to offer Krispy Kreme bacon cheeseburger, other unique selections

CONCORD — No matter how unique your taste buds are, Charlotte Motor Speedway will have many food options to choose from during the next two race weekends.

During Tuesday's Red Carpet Rookies event, menu items served included Krispy Kreme bacon cheeseburgers, tacos, specialty potatoes, funnel cake baconator, salad and ice cream.

Chef Shawn McFalls said he and the director of operations sit down in the spring and use trending foods to create new menu items for the Speedway.

After the items are created, they are served to track management staff and property staff to sample. The food then slowly begins to roll out through race time.

Front Porch Creamery in Mooresville created an ice cream flavor exclusively for Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Speedway had a Facebook competition for fans to name the chocolate swirl ice cream with chocolate chunks. The winning entry was Burnout Blast.

McFalls said his favorite item served at the track are the potatoes in the Spuds and Suds stand. These giant baked potatoes weigh 24 ounces, and sell for $7 or $8 depending on which type is purchased.

The taco spud features taco meat, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, cheddar cheese and green onions. The nacho baked potato has nacho cheese, jalapenos, sour cream and crumbled tortilla chips. The stand serves a butter, bacon and cheddar baked potato. The fourth spud option is buffalo chicken.

The track will also have a Danica Patrick stand, also known as "Fit Fuel." This features healthy eating options, including chopped vegetable salad, veggie burgers and turkey burgers. The stand also paired up with chef Lorena Garcia, who is one of the top Latina chefs.

The Speedway has worked with Garcia over the past year, all of the "sweet" menu items are her recipes this year. Garcia's fish taco and pork carnitos tacos will also be sold at concessions.

Gluten-free hot dogs and gluten-free beer, among other gluten-free items, will be available on the main concourse.

McFalls encourages spectators to check the fan guide to see where these options are sold, as they will not be available at every concession stand.
