Jeff Smith joined the Eyewitness News team as a general assignment reporter in June 2010.
Before moving to Charlotte, Jeff reported KOTV in Tulsa for two years, covering everything from deadly tornadoes to deadly mall shootings. Oklahoma’s known for its crazy weather, and he’s had to deliver live reports from the middle of blizzards, flash floods, and everything in-between! He’s most proud of his in-depth coverage of a meningitis outbreak at an elementary school that killed several second graders. Jeff also worked for WLNS in Lansing, covering political and economic issues for Michigan’s capital city.
He attended Northwestern University, where he graduated Cum Laude from the Medill School of Journalism. He’s a member of the Kappa Tau Alpha honor society.
Jeff’s originally from New Jersey, but he’s thrilled to call the Queen City his new home! He currently lives in South End, and you’ll probably catch him eating out at local restaurants, or on long walks with his two-year-old boxer Winnie. He’s always on the lookout for a great news tip, so feel free to email him your story idea
