Tenikka Smith

Tenikka Smith is the weekday morning anchor for Eyewitness News Daybreak on TV64 which airs from 7am-9am. 

She joined the Eyewitness News team as a reporter in August of 2009 and took over weekend morning anchor duties two years later.

Tenikka has a vast media background.  Her reports have been featured on a number of national media outlets over the years and her research has been published in the Journal of Health Communication. Tenikka was also honored with a broadcast media award for her coverage of child care facilities in Tennessee.

Tenikka graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.  She also earned a master’s in Journalism from the University of Maryland at College Park, graduating with honors.

She also plans to pursue a doctoral degree with an emphasis on media and minority studies.

Before coming to the Charlotte area, Tenikka worked at as a reporter at WPTY-WLMT in Memphis Tennessee and as an anchor/reporter at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia.

Originally from the small eastern North Carolina town of Whitakers, Tenikka is glad to be home in the Tarheel State.

She enjoys mentoring young people, trying new cuisine, and traveling.  Tenikka is also a member of the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists.
