Ben Thompson is an award-winning journalist who joined WSOC-TV in October 2006 as weekend co-anchor & reporter.

Ben is always looking to break the big story. Whether it's an unfolding crime scene, an exclusive investigation, or severe weather, he wants to be in the middle of it. He thrives on breaking news and delivering it in a conversational, no-nonsense style.

Before coming to Charlotte, Ben worked for stations in West Virginia, Wyoming, and Tennessee. He is a proud graduate of New York University. While in college, he interned for NBC News, MSNBC, and CBS News. Ben credits these opportunities for shaping his work ethic.

Even away from work, Ben is a non-stop news junkie. If it's not television news, he's typically occupied by news websites or news radio. When he manages to break away from his information obsession, you can find him lifting weights at the local gym or reading a book at a coffee shop. Ben also enjoys travelling and learning about other cultures.
