Megan Hughes joined WSOC’s Washington Bureau in November of 2006.

While she lives in the nation’s capital now, Megan is no stranger to the Carolinas.

She spent 4 years living and reporting here at WRAL-TV in Raleigh and WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina. Her most memorable experiences include covering the funeral of former South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond, reporting as Hurricanes Alex and Isabel hit the shore and covering the 2004 Democratic Primary.

Megan’s passion to tell stories has taken her around the world. During her career, she’s interviewed street children in South Africa, tsunami victims in Thailand and US soldiers inside the DMZ in Korea. She began her career as an anchor and reporter on the island of Aruba.

Megan earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University, majoring in journalism with a concentration in political science. An avid reader, Megan agrees with North Carolina native Charles Kuralt that “good writing comes from good reading.”

A native Clevelander, Megan grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons and the Cleveland Browns with her two younger brothers. She enjoys playing soccer and spending time outdoors, especially if it involves a boat.
