Kara Lusk joined WSOC-TV in January 2008. Kara grew up in the great state of North Carolina and has been covering news across the state throughout her 11 year career. You can catch her reports on Channel 9 Eyewitness News Daybreak.Kara aspired to be a journalist starting at a young age with her love for writing, passion for story-telling and desire to help people. Kara enjoys working closely with law enforcement officers to reveal crime trends, crack cases and keep people safe.Before joining the Channel 9 Eyewitness News Team in Charlotte, Kara was an anchor and reporter in eastern North Carolina at WNCT-TV and WFXI-TV. She was there five years and received several awards for her coverage.In 2006, members of Congress presented Kara with a national award from the E-911 Institute of Washington, D.C. Kara's reporting spurred her community’s 911 systems to make changes to keep the public safer. Six of the 11 eastern N.C. counties lacking wireless E-911 started developing the capabilities for the service.Also in 2006, Kara received an Associated Press award for Best Consumer Report because of her investigation into bottled water versus tap water.In 2005, Kara won a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for her story about a mother who gave birth on Highway 264 during a snow storm. It was the same highway on which that mother's son died a year earlier in a car accident.Kara began her journalism career in Raleigh at WRAL-TV, first as a Newsclerk, then as a Newswriter. She later served the listeners across the Tar Heel State as an Anchor and Reporter for the North Carolina News Network Statewide Radio, based in Raleigh.Kara graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. While at Carolina, Kara got her first broadcast experience on the airwaves at WCHL Radio in Chapel Hill. Kara also was a member of the UNC Dance Team, The High Kicking Heels.Kara is thrilled to continue her journey as a journalist in North Carolina, and she looks forward to serving the people of the Queen City and surrounding areas.
