There's something rotten in Charlotte, and that's not always a bad thing when you're talking about composting. A Charlotte woman has ways for you to you can create a compost pile in your yard to reduce waste and pollution.Carole Buie-Jackson isn't ashamed to smell like dirt. In fact smell-like-dirt is the name of her website with videos that help people go green at home."You may know about composting using kitchen scraps and leaves in your back yard," she said.Buie-Jackson said composting is a great way to reduce waste."Composting is the single best thing you can do for your garden," she said.In Mecklenburg County people can take yard waste or foods scraps to the curb where huge diesel burning trucks have to pick them up for composting or the trash. Your own compost pile will break that waste down into "free" fertilizer for the yard or garden."If we all started doing it at home they would not have to send out as many trucks, using all the fuel, and having the carbon footprint that they do to come and pick it up at the curb," she said.Buie-Jackson said you can add things like leaves, fruit peels, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, stale bread, paper towels, napkins and egg shells.Composting At Home
