Harold Johnson

Channel 9's Harold Johnson, known as "The Big Guy," brought "Sports with personality" to "Eyewitness News" evenings at 6 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. Harold's style was based on years of experience, which included coverage of the Masters' Golf Tournament for ABC Radio.
Harold began his broadcasting career at WSIC Radio in Statesville. In 1972, he began reporting weekend sports for a local Charlotte television station. He moved to an affiliate radio station from 1974 to 1979.
In 1980, he accepted the position of Sports Director with WSOC-TV. Harold has been honored with four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sportscasting in 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1995. He was also nominated for 1997 and 1999 Emmys.
Originally from Camden, New Jersey, Harold moved to Statesville and graduated from Statesville High School. He received his degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College. He resides in Statesville with his wife and three children.
