Top-Seeded Karlovic Falls To Moya In Metz

Metz, France -- (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1 Carlos Moya upset top- seeded Croat Ivo Karlovic in second-round action Wednesday at the $540,000 Open de Moselle tennis tournament.The unseeded Moya doused the 6-foot-10 Karlovic 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) on Day 3 here. Meanwhile, fifth-seeded Russian Dmitry Tursunov whipped Argentine Jose Acasuso 6-2, 6-2 on the indoor hardcourt at Les Arenes, while another second-round result saw Serbian Janko Tipsarevic dismiss Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-4, 6-4. Tursunov will meet Moya in Friday's quarterfinals. The first round wrapped up here on Wednesday, as French qualifier Adrian Mannarino mauled sixth-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi 6-4, 6-2, while seventh- seeded Czech Radek Stepanek avoided an upset with a 6-3, 6-3 pasting of French crowd favorite Julien Benneteau, and another Frenchman, Michael Llodra, outlasted Spaniard and fellow lefthander Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (13-11), 6-7 (6-8), 6-3. One other first-rounder saw South African qualifier Rik De Voest overcome another French favorite, wild card Arnaud Clement, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Clement captured the inaugural Metz event back in 2003. The 2008 titlist here will take home $85,000.
