Gonzalez, Del Potro Notch Wins In Vienna

Vienna, Austria -- (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Chilean Fernando Gonzalez and surging Argentine Juan Martin del Potro were a pair of winners Wednesday at the $930,000 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy.The Olympic silver medalist Gonzalez came from behind and staved off five match points to beat 20-year-old rising Latvian Ernests Gulbis 4-6, 7-6 (13-11), 6-1 in some second-round action on Day 3 at Wiener Stadthalle. A third-seeded del Potro, meanwhile, posted a 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5) opening- round victory over Austrian wild card Martin Fischer. Del Potro was last week's runner-up in Tokyo. Another first-round result saw eighth-seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils overcome Austrian wild card Alexander Peya 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. In other second-round play, fifth-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco vaulted past Argentine Guillermo Canas 6-1, 6-2, German qualifier Philipp Petzschner handled Czech qualifier Jan Hernych 6-3, 6-4 and former world No. 1 Spaniard Carlos Moya drilled Argentine Eduardo Schwank 6-2, 6-3. Moya will face Petzschner in Friday's quarterfinals.
