The 2013 Scion FR-S is in N Charlotte, and we couldn’t be happier to have this incredibly popular new Scion at our NC Toyota dealership. It brings sports car performance and appearance to drivers who might not be able to otherwise afford it with its economical price tag, and it’s been turning heads all over the country (with good reason). Consumer Reports was obviously taken with this new Scion near Charlotte when they decided to take it on as a challenge. The challenge? To transform it into a supercar without over-extending their wallets!
2013 Scion FR-S challenged by Consumer Reports
First of all, we’ll explain what a supercar is. There’s no hard and fast definition, but at our N Charlotte Toyota dealership we think of it as an exotic vehicle that’s got extraordinary performance capabilities (and usually a price tag most of us couldn’t even fathom being able to afford). Consumer Reports decided to tweak a few elements on the 2013 Scion FR-S in hopes of elevating it to the supercar status. They started with the basics – the wheels.
The N Charlotte Scion FR-S comes standard at our dealership with 17 inch wheels and tires. Consumer Reports swapped them out for 18 inch ultra-high performance wheels and tires (Michelin Primacy HP tires, to be exact), and then upped the ante even more and applied Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to see what the final effects were. The results were quite impressive! In a series of road tests, the 2013 Scion FR-S shone. It actually beat out the BMW 135i in a double land change maneuver test where the ability to maintain speed was measured. The BMW 135i maintained 58.5 mph, while the new Scion FR-S scooted past with 59,1 mpg top speed!
New Scion FR-S competes with Porsche Boxster!
It also came in second to the Porsche Boxster in terms of stopping abilities! Consumer Reports measured how many feet it took for each vehicle to drop from 60 mph to 0 mpg, and the Scion FR-S took second place with an impressive 119 ft – the Porsche Boxster took 112 ft to come to a complete halt! Who ever thought that this N Charlotte Scion would be competing with the likes of Porsche?
However, sometimes you’ve just got to see it to believe it. Come check out the 2013 Scion FR-S near Charlotte, and see for yourself how sporty, aggressive, and sleek it really is. Pop the hood to check out the flat Boxer engine (which provides the 200 horspower needed for get-up-and-go), and appreciate the great standard features like cruise control and a Pioneer Audio System. (But we’re pretty sure you’ll take a look at the price tag and stop there – this new Scion starts out at just $25,255!)
