Alternate Routes from Traffic Team 9 for construction projects and special events

RED, WHITE, AND BOOM/UPTOWN FIREWORKS (July 4th) -- The Red, White, and BOOM fireworks display will close 4 streets near Uptown Charlotte on Saturday evening. Streets will close around 8 p.m. and reopen around 10 p.m.
- Charlottetowne Ave. will be CLOSED between 3rd St. and Memorial Stadium from 8 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Saturday. Use Kings Dr. or Hawthorne Ln. as alternate routes between 3rd St. and 7th St. Traffic coming from Independence Blvd. should use John Belk Freeway to the 3rd St. exit as an alternate route onto Charlottetowne Ave.
- The 3rd St./4th St. Connector will be CLOSED between Charlottetowne Ave. and Kings Dr. from 8 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Saturday. Use Charlottetowne Ave. (left) to Kings Dr. (right), or use Hawthorne Ln. (right) to 7th St. (left) to Kings Dr. (left) as alternate routes.
- 4th St. will be CLOSED between Torrence St. and Kings Dr. from 8 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Saturday. Use Hawthorne Ln. (right) to 7th St. (left) to Kings Dr. (left) as an alternate route.
- Elizabeth Ave. will be CLOSED between Torrence St. and Kings Dr. from 8 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Saturday. Use 7th St. as an alternate route between Hawthorne Ln., Charlottetowne Ave., and Kings Dr.
CAROWINDS BLVD. DELAYS (Saturday) -- The Carowinds fireworks display is expected to cause delays on Carowinds Blvd. between 9 p.m. and midnight on Saturday. Use Westinghouse Blvd. or I-485 as alternate routes between I-77 and South Tryon St.
BRANDYWINE RD. CLOSED POSTPONED -- The Brandywine Rd. closure has been postponed until July 13th.
DIXIE RIVER RD. CLOSED (through July 3rd) -- Dixie River Rd. will be closed between Robbie Circle and Steele Creek Rd. (near Shopton Rd.) through July 3rd. Crews will be rebuilding the intersection with Steele Creek Rd. Use Dixie River Rd. to Wallace Neal Rd. to Steele Creek Rd. as an alternate route.
ROCKLAND DR. CLOSED (through July 20th) -- Rockland Dr. will be CLOSED at Rocky River Rd. West through July 20th. Crews will be installing a new storm drain. Use Rocky River Rd. West to Old Concord Rd. (right) to Farmfield Ln. (right) to Hounslow Ln. (right) to Foxborough Rd. (left) to Buttermere Pl. (right) to Autumnwood Ln. (left) as an alternate route.
SAM DRENAN RD. CLOSED (until further notice) -- Sam Drenan Rd. is CLOSED between Marney Ave. and Burkland Dr. after the road was washed out during heavy rains. There is currently no estimate for when repairs will be completed. Use Burkland Dr. to Marvin Rd. (right) to Billingsley Rd. (right) to Randolph Rd. (right) as an alternate route out of the neighborhood.
GOLDMINE RD. CLOSED (through August 7th) -- Goldmine Rd. is CLOSED between Rocky River Rd. and Seymour St. due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. extension project. The road is expected to reopen on August 7th. Use Rocky River Rd. to Highway 84, or use Rocky River Rd. to Old Charlotte Highway, as alternate routes into downtown Monroe.
CUTHBERTSON RD. CLOSED (through August 24th) -- Cuthbertson Rd. is CLOSED at the bridge over Twelve Mile Creek (near Providence Rd.) through August 24th. Crews are replacing the bridge. Use Providence Rd. to New Town Rd. as an alternate route.
HIGHWAY 321 DELAYS (construction between Lenoir and Blowing Rock) -- NCDOT is widening Highway 321 between Lenoir and Blowing Rock. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, crews often close Highway 321 from noon through 2 p.m. for blasting operations. The best alternate route is to avoid traveling between Lenoir and Blowing Rock during early afternoon hours, as all available detours are quite long. If traveling from Charlotte, consider using I-77 North to Highway 421 (Exit 73, north of Statesville), and then follow Highway 421 North into Boone. From Lenoir, use NC 18 to US 421, or use US 64 (to Morganton) to NC 181 (to Linville) to US 221 (to Blowing Rock,) as alternate routes.
